Toronto Zoo Asian Wild Dog Info

Hi everyone. I was just looking at picture of the an Asian Wild Dog and I was wondering alot of questions about our Asian Wild Dogs. If someone could awnser a few or all, that would be great

From where and when did we get Asian Wild Dogs?(I had a feeling they were from Howletts Wild Animal Park, but I wasn't quite sure)

How many did we have when we recieved them, what were there names and how has the pack been added to or taken away from since then?
(I remember seeing John, Mary and Pat on Zoo Diaries and then from there I just remember having a few different litters)

How many litters of Asian Wild Dog have we had and who were there parents?

What are the current Asian Wild Dogs names?

Sorry for so many questions, our Asian Wild Dog history just intrigues me

In the info that I've got, the zoo currently has 4 (all females). There names are Martha, Pattie, Milla, and Cassia. Martha and Pat are from Twycross, and Milla and Cassia were born in 2006 at the zoo. I'm not sure who the parents are (I'm guessing John and probably Jane). That's all I know about them.

This is kind of a "dead thread" but I was wondering if someone could finish answering ZooGoer's questions.

From the previous posts I can surmise that:

Martha (F) / Pattie (F) transferred from Twycross to Toronto at an unknown date

Milla (F) / Cassia (F) born in 2006

Milla (F) transferred to the Wilds in 2007 with 2 males (Who I believe are siblings)

At some point Toronto houses John (M?), Mary (F?), and Jane (F?)

To my knowledge, the Toronto Zoo has housed eight adult dhole since we began working with this species.

"John" and "Jane" (1.1) were the first dhole to arrive at the zoo; Jane from Winnipeg in 1995 and John from Howlett's in early 1996. They bred a few times, but never successfully reared pups.

"Martha" and "Pattie" (0.2, littermates) arrived from Twycross in 2002.

Both females bred with John and produced litters in 2006.
"Titus" (1.0) was the only surviving pup from Pattie's litter.
"Lucius", "Milla", and "Cassia" (1.2) were all from Martha.

2.1 dhole (Titus, Lucius, and Milla) departed to the Wilds in 2008.
Lucius transferred to the San Diego Wild Animal Park earlier this year (2009).

This literally made my day! Thank you so much!

Thank you so much for that info Ungulate!

I really hope they do get a new male, maybe they can just wait until the new Eurasia opens as dhole are included I think?

Again thanks Ungulate for all the info you give us!

Zoogoer, I hope they are included they are a really interesting species. The zoo said once they have the funds to start construction on Eurasia (2010) they will update and post exhibit plans in the Collections Magazine, I will keep you posted!

Thank you Quartz!

I'll pm you abnout the zoo tycoon 2 thign rite now

Its good to see that this plan is actually getting off the ground as I wasn't expecting it to start up so fast!

Looking back on this thread, does anyone know what the future holds for dhole in Toronto? Are they now a phase-out species? Or is everything more just up in the air as of now.

If their enclosure does get demolished in Eurasia and they are considered a phase-out species, I could see our remaining dholes possibly ending up in a variety of areas if they're still alive by then (the red panda yard closest to the old tiger exhibit and the sumatran tiger maternity yard both seem like viable options).
