Hi all
I am trying to list all of the Asiatic Lions in Europe (a very difficult task, I know). I have so far listed 29 out of the 90 individuals listed on ISIS.

Does anyone know about the individuals at:
Berlin Tierpark 1.0
Besancon 0.2 - as I already know about Tejas, the male.
Boissere 0.3
Dvur Kralove 0.2
Frankfurt 1.1
Helsinki 3.1

Or any others in Europe! I already know all the individuals in Britain as well as at Parken in Sweden.

Thanks
Harry

Can't help with the female but the male at Frankfurt was bred at Cotswold's in 1999/2000 (litter was 2:0) not sure of his name though. The Helsinki male is Naseek born October 98 at Chester. The two previous cubs from that pair are the sisters at Dvur Kralove. Naseek and his mate had another 2:0 cubs since then.

Budapest Zoo has just recieved 0:2 asiatics from Mulhouse Zoo (France) They were born there in 2008. There father Jetpur originates from the last litter at Dudley (I think!) The Mulhouse female is called Sita

Besancon has 1:2 although only Shiva is in with Tejas at present. Her sister Lady is currently apart from them both.

Rotterdam have 1:6 in two exibits (1:2 + female cub in main exibit and another 0:3 elsewhere) The 0:3 in the other area will go to a new holder eventually.

Magdeburg (Germany) have 1:1. They are the parents of the 0:3 at Rotterdam.

Santillana (Spain) have 1:1. Masala the female was born in October 98 at Chester and her mate Lord is from Lodz Zoo in Poland.

Rome have 1:1. Asoka the male was born in October 98 at Chester. No idea on the female's origins though.

Prague Zoo have 1:1. The female was bred at Cotswold's in 2002

Helsinki Zoo consists of male 'Naseek', (Ex Chester, born October 1998) Unsure of adult female there, but are a prolific pair, 2 cubs born in 2009, and previous to that 2 females

Boissere Zoo did have 1:1:2, but unsure where the male has gone to, he was only 4 when the pair where introduced, the female was 7, this was 2 years ago though when they where introduced

Zurich Zoo currently have at least 1:1:2 (cubs where 1:1)

Planckendael has 1:1 (3 cubs born in 2007, with 0:1 at Parken, 1:0 at Chester and 1:0 at Dudley) They lost a litter of 3 cubs in 2009 also

Rotterdam Zoo has 1:6 (1:0 came from Edinburgh Zoo 'Kumar', the females are 11 year old Shantee- sister to Asha (Chester), Indu (Paignton and Sohan (Ostrava) Her daughter Bente born 2006 is also there. Shantee had 0:1 in September 2009 called Naui. Bente is also pregnant. The 3 additional females are due to come to a European Zoo once an African lioness dies

Moscow Zoo- 1:1, including Midas (ex Paignton, dad to Indu, Sohan, Shantee, Asha and Devika (dead- Chessington)

Ostrava Zoo- 1:1 (Sohan (ex Paignton) and Asha (ex Eskilstuna)

will update more shortly

Lodz zoo has 1:0 from Edinburgh. Unsure of female's origins, possibly Bristol?

I have never been able to trace the 1:1 cubs born at Bristol in 1999 so this sounds very possible. Think the female was named Indi and her brother Daca?

Yeh, there where 3 litters born at Bristol, the first did not survive, the second was 1:1 and the 3rd was 0:1. The last female was called Aiesha. Bristol cubs moved to Tierpark Berlin, Bescancon and Lodz zoo.

Also, Jetpur (Mulhouse) was part of the final litter ( 2:1 ) born at Dudley in 2003??? I'm sure the female was killed by the mother shortly after the cat flu injections where given and she was released back into the lion paddock

Are either of the females currently at Besancon from Bristol then?

Possibly, if one is either 9 or 12 years old, then it could be either Indi or Aiesha.

Rhenen Zoo did have 1:1 in 1997 (1:0 from Chester born 1994) and 0:1 from Zurich. Unsure if they still have asiatics, noticed some pictures of them having the dreaded white lions!!

Jeruselum Family Zoo has 1:3, but the male has had tests and is sterile

Koln Zoo has 1:1 (i think), there are pictures of them having at least 1:0

Gabriel at London could be a future candidte then if JFZ wanted to replace the male?

Rhenen Zoo has now been renamed Ouwehands Dierenpark and ISIS doesn't list them as keeping Asiatics anymore.

Burford = Cotswold Wildlife Park.

Intresting to know that one of the 1996 Chester cubs is still going strong, didn't get any names of them at the time.

Lions at Zurich:

Radja (m), born 16.07.05 in Besancon

Joy (f), born 22.12.03 in Frankfurt

Jeevana (f), born 3.02.09 in Zurich (parents Joy and Radja)

Jasraj (m), born 3.02.09 in Zurich (parents Joy and Radja)

As far as I know the zoo has another female, Aipani, born 2000 in Helsinki. She and Joy don't get along with each other. That's why she seems to be kept in an enclosure that is not open to the public.

Is Aipani part of the breeding programme, does she have access to the male?

Didn't Zurich also have a really old Asiatic male?

I got the European Studbook for Asiatic lions several years ago. If anyone is interested in, please tell me....

I would be.

Asiatic Lions are my favourite of the big cats and I do a lot of research on them and their captive breeding, especially within Europe.
