asiatic lions in europe

Don't give up on Dudley and maybe even Chester towards the end of the year! Itar and Iblis will turn three in September and as Kumar at Rotterdam proved, three can be very productive age when your a lion! :D
 
So the database is nearly done - still desperately need the following info:

- The names of the young females at Boissiere du Dore

I have just emailed Terra Nature to ask about the mysterious female. Might email Boissiere tomorrow if I get time

Jerusalem third female

Is Illenia = Yllie? if so born 1997 January, father Jake mother Ruchy - POB London - but again not sure on females

Ilenia is a different lion to Yllie I believe - Ilenia came to Jerusalem from a zoo in Germany, so perhaps one of Indi's young?

Thanks - we thought he was 'Mokan' after reading a very pixelated old studbook :) - but he is actually Mohan...

So that makes him Kampti and Kalindi's littermate?

the zoos some time change the names of the lions after moving, so it is possible that Yellie is Illania and I believe it is , but still I think in cases like this when there is no No available it is necessary an independent confirmation, the best way from the zoo itself. :)
 
The story of the lions Arthur (Arfur) and Jake – is anybody knows something???

Bellow is the story with the questionable issue I am looking for answer of the origin of Arthur (studbook #1253) and Jake (stud book # 1245) the two British male founders of the
Asiatic lions captive populations in Europe, along with Vanaraj in Helsinki and Banagriath in Zurich. So the story is little bit complicate because the data in the studbook and the ISIS data differ on the point about the origin. So Arthur and Jake are the two
Asiatic males that arrived in London zoo in late 1990. In the ISIS database Arthur is signed as Captive born, but Jake as Wild born. In the Studbooks (from 1993 to 2006) what I have in may notes is that both are signed as WILD captured i.e. wild born.
What I know from a friend of mine , who was PHD student at ZSL - London zoo at that time ( studding the flemen patterns of carnivores) is the next story: There were two wild lioness captured in Gir - Bijlee and Sukeshi. One of them was pregnant but one of them had already a male cub - few days or so old???. So that cub was Jake, the other lioness - Bijlee gave birth about couple of
weeks late -but already in captivity - again to a male cub - Arthur.
So that is the story I heard from my friend, but I need to confirm this - it is an important issue, despite it seems kind of weird. So I would appreciate if somebody knows something and can provide me any insides of that story or to confirm /disconfirm what I heard from my colleague.

The male in Planckendael in Chandra, he was born in May 1996 together with his brother Ashok in Chester. Their parents are Jake and Chandani. A couple years later they moved to planckendael.
In 2006 a female , named Kolya came from Benidorm to planckendael, her sister stayed in Benidorm and should have getten company from Ashok, but Ashok died during the transfer.

And what Rotterdam concerns.
The male Kuma was born on the 21st april 2006 in Edinburgh. Shantee was born in 1998 in Paignton, father:Midas mother:Jamna
Bente was born the first of september 2006 in Rotterdam
father: Vanaraj (also the grandfather of Shantee), mother:Shantee

I have contacted during the years with both Neil Dorman and Sarah Christie (she was the former studbook keeper) but that is quite foggy story, so they did not know - only the persons that were working with the lions directly would be able to tell. I posted the same on the London zoo forum so might be there could be something
