Possibly my description was confusing. With "forested", I meant that the species needs forested areas, not necessarily that it lives in forests

American Mink? They are semi-aquatic, but to my understanding, they are certainly more of a “forest animal” than NARO or American Badger.

It's not the mink but you found the answer.
It was north American river otter. Surely the otter is not a typical forest amimal but they are absent from prairies, deserts and Mediterranean vegetation of California. Their distribution is connected with American boreal, temperate and mountain forests


I also need to noted that the total distribution I refer is the widely accepted native distribution. For example, given the reference of the American mink, I would said "north America", excluding Europe, Asia and south America
