Aspinall's Animals?

Just wondered if anyone could remember this ITV series focusing on Howlett's/Port Lympne? I believe it was shown in the late 90's/ early 00's and one of the main story's covered was the handrearing of a (now dead) young elephant calf. Was it any good overall? Thanks

I may or may not remember correctly when I say that I saw them on DVD (or was it video tape? Mind you it was 10 years ago) at the Howletts souvenir shop when I was there in September 2001. Maybe it was not Aspinall's Animals but at least it had something to to with the two parks, i.e. it was not a generic wildlife series.

I think it was one and the same video as the AA film. They would have taken advantage of their rights(?) to the films to market it themselves I think. They may well have the 'Gorilla School' dvd for sale these days.

Possibly sounds right. Does anyone know how many series (or episodes if it only lasted for one series?) were produced?

John Aspinall's Animals

There were 9 videos in total (or at least I only have 9 - 3 series of 3 videos):

1 - Elephants, Bongos and Babies
2 - Bonding with My Friends
3 - Gorillas and the Aspinall Legend

4 - Baby Doll, Buffalo and Berry
5 - The Eye of a Big Cat
6 - A Tale of Three Elephants

7 - Triumph and Tragedy
8 - The End of an Era
9 - To The Rescue

It's a while since I watched them but, as expected from anything overseen by the late Mr Aspinall, these were of the highest quality.

Resurrecting an old thread to ask a favor of anyone who might have these tapes on VHS still. After this thread originally started - I went on to purchase 5 videos from this series via Amazon. Unfortunately over the years (and the course of several house moves) two of them have since disappeared

I'm about to send the remaining three away to be copied onto DVD in the hope of preserving them. I'd really love to turn my last three into a full series but have drawn a blank when it comes to purchasing anymore of the original tapes. I've tried all the usual sites (ebay, Amazon etc) but nothing. The TV company that produced them has also since gone bust so aren't able to help either

So I have a solution - If anyone still has these videos in *working condition* then in return for temporary loan of your tape/s to allow them to be copied, I will send them back along with a copy of it/them on DVD.

Please PM me if you do have any and would be willing to discuss this offer

The only three I don't need are:
4 - Baby Doll, Buffalo and Berry
7 - Triumph and Tragedy
9 - To The Rescue

Thanks in advance

Did you have any luck with finding the remaining episodes in the series Nisha? I had completely forgotten about this but was just reminded and can check with some friends who worked with me at Pot Lympne during those times - surely someone will have a copy somewhere. Or is it online anywhere?

Thanks for replying - I later found out that the Bartlett Society has a full set within its archive. I will be borrowing them at some stage to hopefully have them copied :)

Hi Nisha, I wanted to ask you if you ever managed to get the full series 'Aspinalls Animals' featuring my father etc in it. I would be very interested to know as its disappeared off YouTube and I cannot find it anywhere. Please let me know, thanks, Bassa

Hi Nisha, did you manage to digitise a full copy of the series ? I do have two tapes which might be of assistance and I am also looking for a full set, so please let me know. Many thanks, Bassa Aspinall

Johannesburg Zoo has a set of Three videos of Aspinall's Animals, in a collection of several zoo memorabilia and tapes.
Some photos of one of the cassettes:

Thank you so much Nix. I will try and make contact with them and see what I can do. Do you have anyone specific as to whom you are in contact with there ?

Hi - I managed to eventually loan the full set from the Bartlett Society Archive and had them copied onto dvd. The VHS tapes were returned but I still have the DVD's in my own collection. I can enquire about getting additional copies made if you were interested?

Hi Nisha, I would really appreciate that. Even better, maybe you could get the DVDs converted onto MP4 digital format and then you could send through google drive or wetransfer. I would obviously happily pay for the conversion. I also have some other programmes on my late father that might interest you, so let me know and I can send them through to you as well. Thank you so much in advance, regards, Bassa

Hi Nisha...did you have any luck with that conversion of the the DVDs ? Please can you send me a message so I can assist in organising this as I would really like to organise this as a present for my mother as she would love to see them. My email is bassaaspinall@me.com. Thank you, Bassa

Hi Nisha and Bassa, if there is any chance of getting hold of this series on either DVD or another format I’d love a copy and would be happy to pay. I believe the series features Darren Cockrill who sadly was killed by an elephant at Port Lympne 24 years ago and I’d love to be able to share this with his friends and family. Thanks, Matt

Hi Matt, I am afraid that I have had no luck. I am also unable to contact Nisha direct as I am not a member on this site. Can I ask you to contact her directly and see if you have any luck. My email is bassaaspinall@me.com and would be very keen to know if you have any luck on your side. I will also do the same if you send me your contact email. Thanks Bassa
