Assiniboine Park Zoo Assiniboine Park Zoo News 2014

I just looked up his family tree and it looks like he was born in Buffalo, NY. It's a shame he went from a place so snowy to a warm climate and small exhibit.

Bigger shame is he cannot come home to Canada and enjoy his final years in luxury. They would have done everything possible to make his final years fantastic. Although having been in such a hot climate so long a harsh Winnipeg winter might have been too much for him.

Thats so cool thanks for sharing that KrissyR. I wouldnt have thought they would introduce the girls for another year to let them catch up to the boys in size a little but clearly they arent that far behind. Hopefully they can successfully maintain the group together as they enter maturity. I would assume the boys will be seperated during the breeding season to avoid aggression but thats still well into the future. Im excited to see what happens with this happy little group in the future. It will be something to watch over the next several years. It's just so great that Assiniboine lets those of us not in Winnipeg come along for the ride.

From what I hear, the little girls run the show ;)

It sounds like they plan it swap the bears around often to keep things interesting. That is what JTC was designed for, changing bears, environments etc so I hope they continue to mix well.

Thats cute to hear. I can see the boys letting the little girls run the show.

It sounds like a great way to keep their day stimulating. Never knowing who they will meet, when or where. Sounds as interesting for them as it is for the guests watching them. It should be interesting to see how things progress as they all grow up and mature and with any luck start their genetically valuable families.

Another article about the raising of admission fees. Going from $10.24 to $18.50 (plus tax) is an astronomical leap considering that last year the zoo had its highest attendance (over 400,000) in 20 years. I wonder what the locals think? Maybe they figure that you get what you pay for as the new Journey to Churchill complex does look quite spectacular.
