August Puzzle 2024

I think it's a Javan green magpie, but not sure if that helps with the theme...

Indeed it is and it will certainly help. All species relate so as long as you are correct in your IDs you should get what each picture relates to but that's not always the case. Two of the animals you just need to tell me the type of animal so as an example if I had a photo of a Sandbar shark all you would require is shark.

OK, thanks for all the clues and other guesses. I might be a bit closer.

If 1 is indeed a jackrabbit, maybe the show is Samurai Jack or Jack Ryan?

2 could be a donkey, in which case I can think of Drop the Dead Donkey as a relevant link.

Is the takin going by Budorcas taxicolor, meaning "badger-coloured ox-antelope?" If so, might it be a reference to Bodger & Badger?

The rook could be a reference to Upstart Crow maybe?

I don't know where to start for the duiker, green magpie, and cichlid (or tilapia or just fish)

To save you going down that rabbit hole (pun not intended :D) it's not a jack rabbit of any species

You were correct with your original answer on this one. Think of what the word ass means ;)

It's not a takin :D

A bit tenuous, but yes

Yes, a cichlid. However it requires the species so consultation from @gentle lemur might be necessary.

Green Magpie back to the old ITV children’s programme Magpie???

Bingo! :)

Could duiker be related to the diving programme 'Splash'?

It does not I'm afraid. For the duiker a bit of digging will be required.

My first thought was Sarotherodon lohbergeri, one of the Barombi Mbo mouthbrooders, but when I looked up my own photos I realised I was wrong.
I have kept quite a few cichlids, photographed dozens more and and seen lots of others as well, but no bells are ringing I'm afraid. My only excuse is that cichlids are one of the fastest evolving and so most diverse and species rich families of vertebrates.

Admittedly the photo doesn't actually best represent the species as it was the only representative of the species in the gallery. I'll reveal this species as being a T-bar cichlid

Blue Duiker - Bluey?
T-bar Cichlid - Mr T?

For the blue duiker it might be worth doing some looking up, it's probably one of the hardest to work outthe link along with possibly the other fish, lagomorph (the species) & what the centipede relates to...

However, Mr T is indeed correct but the theme isn't TV Show characters but it's very close.
