Asian elephant:

A population list/new thread for Asian elephant will be posted tomorrow - in line with ZooChat’s rule of not posting threads for the new year until all time zones are in the new year.

Other species:

Updated 2023 population lists have been posted for Sumatran tiger, Common chimpanzee, orangutan, Western lowland gorilla, hippopotamus, African lion, leopard and Mandrill - since none of these species generate enough discussion to warrant an annual thread.

Nope, it’s all yours if you’re up for a challenge. Births are readily reported, but with the exception of Hamilton Zoo, few facilities post information on the individuals they hold.

Wonderful. I've already emailed a couple of the facilities, and some do have some info online which i've been able to find.

I only imagine Dubbo (and Auckland) will be the only challenges with the large troops they hold.

For all of you lovely people compiling population lists, Mogo and Hunter Valley Wildlife Parks routinely provide animal names on their Instagram accounts in their posts. Whilst the name is not the only piece of useful information, it may provide worthwhile as a starting point/to guide further research.

I know they came from Orana but unfortunately I have no idea where they went. All other regional zoos appear to have their populations accounted for, unless they're housed off display somewhere.

Would this mean that Sydney Zoo is where the group of spider monkeys, referenced in the recent article about Orana, were rehomed to?
