Australian mammals in overseas zoos

@Tigerlemurguy: The zoos of
-Duisburg
-Lisbon
-Vienna
-Edinburgh
-Madrid
and Dierenpark Plackendael & ZooParc de Beauval.

the top original thread said 90+ koalas in europe, may i ask which collections these are at?

According to ISIS the following Hold Koalas (Although this maybe not correct)

Beauval (France)
Duisburg (Germany)
Edinburgh (Scotland)
Lisbon (Portugal)
Madrid (Spain)
Wild Animal Park Mechelen Planckendael (Belgium)
Skansen Akvariet (Sweden)
Zoo Vienna (Austria)

And amount for 12.15

90 seems a lot for these several collections

does one collection house a large group?

Beauval (France) 2.1
Duisburg (Germany) 1.5
Edinburgh (Scotland) 2.0
Lisbon (Portugal) 1.3
Madrid (Spain) 2.1
Wild Animal Park Mechelen Planckendael (Belgium) 1.4
Skansen Akvariet (Sweden) 1.0
Zoo Vienna (Austria) 2.1

As taun said, it amounts to 12.15. I don't know where the figure of 90 came from...

got it from the first post on this thread, maybe it supposed to mean the whole world number not europe lol

What I said was

Koala: 90+ in 7 European, 9 US, 2 Japanese and 1 African
ie total in overseas (ie not Australian) zoos.

This is not in the European zoos forum

Skansen doesn't hold any koala's anymore, they where only there for a few months but why exactly it was so short, i don't know.

Tasmanian devil:

Europe-Copenhagen zoo,Denmark
USA-Toledo zoo, LA zoo, San Diego zoo, ABQ biopark zoo, Saint louis zoo
New Zealand-Auckland zoo, Wellington zoo
Asia-Tama Zoo,Japan

Fort Wayne Children's Zoo will have Tasmanian devils in the next year or so.

Planckendael and Budapest are probably the most comprehensive, off the top of my head.

Plzen zoo have, just at the entry, a great kangaroo (and rat-kangaroo) collection, together with australian giant water rat, pools with australian waterfowl and the best thing: all ornamental flower beds in the zone are made with australian native plants and shrubs.

I agree even though Planckendael could do with more non-mammals in their Australia part. Budapest feels quite balanced and complete. I would like to mention Neuwied as well with their 200 kangaroos even though it is only 2 species.

I have seen 2 very good Australian exhibits during the last 2 months, both are located in small Belgium.

The first one is Planckendael, which will be upgraded by Tasmanian devils latest 2017, already including lots of Australian Fauna Highlights like Cassowary, Wombat, Echidna, Koala, black Wallaby, dusky Wallaby, tawny frogmouth, etc.

Second one is Pairi Daiza with a nice walk-through enclosure for red giant kangaroos and spectacled pelicans, a walk-through aviary with parakeets, herons, small kangaroos, cockatoos, pigeons, Australian curlew, etc. and lots of typical Aussies like Emu, Black Wallby, Wombat, Koala, Potoroo, etc.

The most fascinating for me was something that hasn´t anything to do with the animals: A gian tree fern forest...

Pairi Daiza actually has quite some interesting Australian reptiles as well in the Mersus Emergo even though that is formally not part of the collection of Pairi Daiza.
