WWT Llanelli has been closed after a wild duck , found dead on the adjoining estuary , was found to have 'avian flu' . Very worrying times .

The Centre re-opened yesterday .

I visited today for a most enjoyable spot of birding and walk . There is a disinfectant mat at the entrance , to be used as visitors enter and leave . Also they are not selling bags of grain to feed the birds as they normally do . A notice at the Entrance explains this is due to Bird Flu .

On a cold , but lovely sunny day , the car park was almost full .

I guess the other centres like Slimbridge will have the same policy- I was surprised the outbreak wasn't mentioned on their website or that the public can still enter and mix freely with the waterfowl whereas other collections have closed their walkthrough aviaries etc.
