Axe Valley Wildlife Park Axe Valley Wildlife Park First Visit

I finally visited Axe Valley Wildlife Park today (It's not called Axe Valley Bird and Animal Park anymore). Despite it being just a few miles/fifteen minutes away from my home.

I only became aware of it earlier this year and from a local paper article.

The only other Zoo's I've visited are Exmoor and Paignton. But they are both in a whole different league to this place so it ain't fair to fully compare.

I found it to be quite enjoyable, though there's no 'big' carnivores Leopards, wolves etc. Most of the animals on show are pretty much viewable in other collections across the country. Though there was the Fennec Foxes, Racoon Dogs, Pal civets, Leopard cats and Racoons that were firsts for me.

There are plenty of birds on show, parrots, owls, ducks, free roaming chickens etc.

The Park was well laid out, very hard to get lost or reach a dead end. The park itself was not big so helped with the hard to get lost bit, some of the enclosures are a little on the small side, but the animals within were happy and active enough so no issues there.

The park also focuses on recycling. They used old shoes as flower pots, sprayed car hub caps as mushrooms and a pile of old bricks/pipes as a bug hotel.

Overall a nice place to visit if your in the area/live nearby. It only takes an hour to get around, I stayed on for four hours before leaving. It'll be interesting to see what they do in the future.

It's also nice as now Cricket st Thomas has sadly closed (well, no longer have animals) there is at least this place to visit in the area.
