Axe Valley Wildlife Park Axe Valley Wildlife Park

Not counting Bristol as that is technically a relocation but I think this is possibly the biggest loss in the UK since Belle Vue in 1977!

Oh, I think Bristol most certainly counts as the biggest loss since Belle Vue - despite the renaming of Wild Place, it doesn't really count as a "relocation" in the slightest considering a) how different Wild Place is from Bristol Zoo even now and b) the fact that Wild Place had existed for almost a decade before Bristol closed.

I think some of the other collections cited upthread are bigger losses than Axe as well - and I'll chuck Blackbrook Zoo into the mix too!

Please nobody bother to mention Windsor SP or S Lakes

Although for obvious reasons I never visited, from all I've heard I think it is a *little* unfair to lump Windsor in with South Lakes :D:p and I'd actually say that the latter was indeed a loss, but in a more esoteric fashion - that is to say, a loss of potential rather than a material loss.

I wonder if they mean their final day of being open is Friday, or of that's the day they close, with their last day open being Thursday...any thoughts? I have made contact but had no response yet.

I’d taken it that their last open day will be Friday, and am planning to visit, so look forward to their response to you to confirm.

My plan is to visit on Friday too - hopefully see you there!

Will confirm if I get a response. If not, I'll give them a ring tomorrow.

Similarly, I am looking at Friday afternoon, and waiting to hear from them, but assume they will be open!

It's a real shame. I visited it a few months ago and thought it was a lovely place. I didn't even suspect it might be in trouble and in danger of closing.

The collection was very interesting. Do you know what will happen to all these animals?

There’s lots of space at Paignton zoo, but probably not the money or staff to care for them!

Fortunately they don't have too many larger mammals which would potentially be more difficult to re-home , I'm sure all those small carnivores will be snapped up in no time.

I would like to see the Rakali [Australian Water Rat] go to London so they have them again in Night Life....unless the exhibit has totally changed [they still had the exhibit in 2021 but I'm not sure if any rats were there at that point]

I think they had gone on my last visit in July

Has anyone had it confirmed by the zoo that they are definitely open on Friday?

I've tried calling (no answer) and no response to a Facebook message (I wouldn't normally use this, but they've been very responsive in the past).
