I have now acquired a membership as they didn't do them on my visit last year. Quite a few new species have arrived since my first visit in October. I can't remember all the species they've gained but they do have Flamingos, Common Genets and just recently a Serval has gone on show.

The park seems to be improving rapidly. It was only started up in July 2008 and now has quite a nice collection. Looking at Zootierliste they do have some rarer/less common species, like Indochinese Leopard Cats, common Genets and Asian Palm Civets.

The appearance of the place is excellent, its doesn't have a run down/neglected fell to it at all. Just got to see now what species they'll get next. I'm hoping it won't be long before they can get 'bigger' species in - Maned Wolves, Cheetah etc...

Overall a highly recommended visit if your in the area.
 
By Common Genet do you mean Genetta genetta?
 
I do believe they are indeed Genetta Genetta. The info sheet calls them Common Genets and looking at images online (and Zootierliste) they look like Genetta Genetta. But Zootierliste don't list them for some reason? Only ones in the UK as Zootierliste don't mention them elsewhere in UK?

Zootierliste is updated by users - so if the fact that the collection has gone into the species has not been discovered by anyone who can edit the site, the information would naturally not get added! That said, ZTL does mention that non-subspecific G.genetta - labelled on Zootierliste as European Genet - are held in two collections up in Scotland.

I'll add the Axe listing to the relevant page now. Don't suppose you got any photographs?
 
I do have some photo's on a website. Not sure if I can link here or not though?

Their Serval is not mentioned on Zootierliste either I believe. I don't have an Zootierliste account though so can't change anything. Unless I missed them as they have several sub species down that I tend to miss sometimes when looking on there.

I just spotted them now under European Genets, though I thought common and European Genets where the same species, just different names?
 
They are - but as ZTL needs a different name for G.genetta and G.g.genetta (ie the pure subspecies) it applied one name to the former and the other name to the latter.
 
Visited today.

The Asian Palm Civets have been moved to a new larger enclosure and there's now Common Cusimanse in their old enclosure.
 
Excellent - always good to hear of a new collection holding Cusimanse :D although I *would* like it were collections further north than Cambridgeshire (the northernmost holder in the UK being Shepreth) to go into them!
 
Mistake alert! On their map it spells Deer as 'dear', unless this some species I've never heard of :p
 
Spelling mistakes do creep in at the park. On my visit in 2013 a sign said one of the Caracaras had arrived in a "heavy malt", and "Himalayan" had become "Himalyen". It is a pity about the mistakes as I really like the place.

I photographed the sign and was going to post it with a caption on those lines, but then everything got wiped off my laptop and I have never got around to scanning any of my 2013 Axe Valley photographs.
 
They're having a baby boom at the moment... a 4th leopard cat has been born as well as 11 raccoon dogs, 6 raccoons and twin ringtailed lemurs

A pure subspecific form - for instance Malayan or Palawan - or just zoomix Binturong?
