ZSL London Zoo Aye Ayes

great news for the aye ayes, has someone emailed the zoo otherwise i will!
 
I would expect they have waited some years to either replace one or both of their pair, as the male was always nervous of the older female. I know they refurbished the exhibit this year, hopefully the new pairing will result in London breeding this species.
 
yes i wonder what will haoppen to the original pair, maybe its a swap with jersey?

and i remeber when i went last time the house was closed for work

just a silly question. Last november i visited ZSL and missed the Aye-Aye :(.
And as i ll go there coming saturday i want to see them now, but after checking some maps i can't really find the round house? So where should can i find it.

And to stay with animals from Madagaskar and the Indian Ocean: the jumping rats and rodriguez bats are in the nocturnal area in the basement (i can remember seeing them last time, but i focussed then more on some aviaries and the snake collection).

the round house is near the meerkats and otters and next to the clore pavillion. As far as I know, the bats and rats are still in the clore basement.
 
thanks for the quick reply and i now know why i missed them. I watched the ring tailed lemurs and then walked through to the otters and didnt enter the building. i will this saturday :):)


It will be these species plus the new bird house that i m actually most looking forward to
 
The door into the roundhouse is not very obvious, you enter from the west, near the Alaotra lemurs outside cage - which is part of the Clore. But as this thread says, it has been closed while the new aye-ayes settle in - so I hope you're luckier than I was last month. Please tell us if it's open again.

thanks again, let's keep fingers crossed and I ll let you know if it's open or not. I ll also try to make some pictures.
 
Last time I went thre were jumping rats in one of the enclosures with the aye-ayes.
 
A couple of years ago I saw a grey squirrel in the aye-aye enclosure at Edinburgh (it must have got into the outdoor cage and then into the indoor one). I told the keeper but she wasn't worried.
I know they have done some work on the enclosure - I hope it's squirrel proof now.

really? how does it work at edinburgh? i dont understand why they would have outdoor and indoor enclosure, what cycle are they on. our night thier day?

In the giraffe house at ZSL- which isn't far from the Aye Aye house(so there's your link;) there used to be a number of pure white house sparrows among the colony feeding on chaff etc from the hay & straw.. I haven't seen them in recent years though.

I can remember when London's Aye Aye house held their breeding chimp colony too.
