I'll be going to Minnesota next year to see the Minneapolis Zoo! Looking forward to it! When is the best season to go?

Wow, thanks for the update Zooplantman. Great to hear Tracy Aviary was finally reaccredited.

My niece plays for the WNBA Minnesota Lynx, so we're about due to visit the area. I'll definitely make a point of visiting the Minnesota Zoo, I'd like to compare Russia's Grizzly Coast with the magnificent Grizzly exhibit I had the pleasure of seeing at Seattle's Woodland Park Zoo. I'm sure, if nothing else, Grizzly Coast is probably larger with the size of that mega zoo.

@Zooplantman: thanks for starting this thread!

@Redpanda: Woodland Park Zoo's penguin exhibit will be eligible for next year's awards, and will probably stand a great chance of receiving some sort of recognition. But once never knows with these awards.

Great news for the Minnesota Zoo, who were runners-up last year with "Minnesota Trail" and have now won the big prize with "Russia's Grizzly Coast" this year. Both sets of animal habitats are hugely impressive, and no wonder that the zoo broke its attendance record last year! I really enjoyed my visit in the summer of 2008, and have ever since ranked the zoo in my top 12 in North America.

They also won the top award for their "Russia's Grizzly Coast" marketing campaign :D

The interesting thing about the head-to-head competition for this award, between Minnesota's Grizzly Coast and Bronx's Madagascar, was that it was Lee Ehmke (Minnesota director) up against his girlfriend, Sue Chin, who designed Bronx's Madagascar.
