Toronto Zoo AZA Accreditation Denied to Toronto Zoo for 2012-13

My last blog was about Pat Derby, co-founder of PAWS in California, and critics against her poor competence as animal trainer, her total lack of welfare for animals etc during her years as "trainer".

I found an interesting link on Circus Fans Association of America where you can read, among other things regarding Animal Rights Activists and PAWS: "Derby rarely mentions how in her days as a trainer and operator of a roadside zoo in Buellton , CA, an elephant in her care died in a barn fire."

And heres my blog about Pat Derbys first elephant Neena.

Pat is sadly no longer around to answer, nonetheless this recent film may provide some replies to your concerns. 'An Apology To Elephants', shared by ElephantVoices and featuring Collen Kinzley of Oakland Zoo. For copyright reasons may be taken offline soon, so please watch at the earliest. Link :

Whether or not PAWS is the right place for the elephants to go has really become a pointless argument. Its where they are going whether people like it or not... Hopefully the girls go next month and then the zoo can just move on and focus on its future. Get rid of the city's involvment in the zoo, so professionals can make animal well fare decisions as they should have been allowed to do in the first place. Get the AZA to accept the zoo back in the fold. Focus on our 5 years with the pandas. And look to future redevelopment of the zoo's older areas with hopes for better exhibits and an increased diversity of species. It will be sad to see the elephants go especially with such passionate and deeply divided opinion on their departure but it also will signal the beginning of a new chapter for the zoo. One that will hopefully see the zoo come out stronger than ever.
