AZA use of contraceptives

I found this interesting article on the use of contraceptives on zoo animals and how they are working a little too well because some animals arent breeding ever again even when taken off it. The focus is on lions but it could have implications for every species where birth control is the preferred method of preventing babies.

What happens when zoo contraceptives work too well? : News

AZA use of contraception

Some 40 yeas ago, our Dachshund bitch had an injection of a product called 'Promone-E' to postpone a heat, and didn't recommend cycling for some eighteen months. She conceived and reared a litter at that stage.
My understanding is that elephants stop cycling if they don't breed, and that pigs are likely to stop permanently if contracepted.
Primates seem to be relatively straightforward.

Oh I didnt know it was in the general forum. My apologies. I tend not to visit the general forum. I thought I would post it here because it dealt solely with US zoos but I could see it being something others would be interested in too. Oh well.
