Babirusa in UK collections

I noticed on another thread that someone mentioned Babirusa in UK collections. As they seem to have virtually stopped breeding, and are dwindling in number, does anyone know where they are still being kept, aside from the ones mentioned on ISIS?

I know thrigby Hall has them, but I have no knowledge of whether they have bred.

Yes, I thought Twycross had them. Someone said they weren't there any more.
Last time I went there were babies too. Do they still breed from the pair?

South Lakes Wild animal park has just had twin Babirusas born. Apparently the female is one of only a couple breeding in the EEP. The last Babirusa born in the UK were also born at South Lakes, again two were born that time.

To my knowlege, Babirusa in the UK are now only at Marwell, Chester, Twycross, Thrigby Hall and South Lakes.

could they not go in the monkey house and share the island with the sulawesi crested macaques or share with the anoa?

also they woudnt really get lot of peace from the monkeys there. Moving them to the Maned Wolves paddock would have been a better place for them.

Coudnt they also go to the Realm Of The Red Ape.

There also isn't much space in the monkey house for a pair of babairusa, and the moats wouldn't stop them escaping!!

They probably would if you put an electric fence around the perimeter of the Island. However I expect they'd plough it all up and make it look very unnattractive which wouldn't go down too well....

It seems like Chester need to utilise a little bit more of their undeveloped land for various smaller hoofstock in need of rehousing at present.

What happened to Chester's Maned Wolves? They weren't there very long and I heard on this forum that they died- but what from?

Most zoos seem to be able to succeed okay with them. Will Chester try again?

The Maned Wolves were culled in 2006 and had been at the zoo for 9 years. I can't remember why, I suppose it was because of illness.

I found Chester's pair to be the most secretive Maned Wolves I'd ever known. I hardly ever saw them despite visiting around 10 times a year.

I don't think they'll have any more in the near future.

If they weren't a good exhibit they probably won't repeat it.

Banham Zoo(Norfolk) have/had a pair which always showed themselves well on my visits- but I've also found them rather to be a rather shy species at some places, though you can always identify their paddock by the strong smell which permeates the whole area...

Chester now have a new male babirusa, so hopefully some babies soon. He came from southlakes, does anyone know which one he is, as the keepers don't know whether he had a name at south lakes?

will it be likely that the paddocks at this end of the zoo will be turned into a savannah area, it seems the most likely use for it continuing the themed area from the rhino, meerkat, warthog and lechwe and the planned aviary. Surely giraffe and zebra along with antelope would use up most of the paddock space available in that area, do you think a common hippo exhibit is still on the drawing board somewhere?
