Baby elephant boom ...

I checked out elephant.se and found that we have a baby elephant boom in the Netherlands ..

Ma Ya Yee ... When?
Thong Tai next summer
Douanita .. about now
Khaing Phyo Phyo .. almost about now (Belgium I know, but jus across the border and Alex ...)
Indra (though elephant.se indicated the wrong Indra - and again Alex)

There's a lot of baby elephants I need to visit.

Indra was already included in my list. I hope all goes well this time, such a pity how her baby died.

But, as your online name indicates you are a Emmen fan, do you know when Ma Ya Yee is supposed to give birth?

The KMDA has annouced it very big,
so it is no wonder that people across the world heared over it. :)

How did you find this site?? I received the (Dutch) newsletter of Antwerp where they announced that THEY are expecting. They made it big news in Belgium with 600 m2 message boards throughout the country. But how this this news travel to the other side of the world?

found it on elephant.fan.de, I check it reguraly every morning in addition to other sites.

Don't know when May Yay Yee will deliver. Indra will in November...

That's great news, but is staff in caution to make sure the same thing doesn't happen twice?

Amersfoort is building a brand new elephant house with a large room (600 sq meters) filled with a thick layer of sand. Perhaps they will take Khine War War separated when the delivery starts. I will ask the caregivers next time.

There is sad news from Amsterdam. Thong Tai gave birth to a baby boy on Saturday January 10th (2,5 months early). Unfortunally it died the day after (yesterday).

Very sad indeed. It was the first calf for bull Nikolai, and of major importance for a new bloodline.

Artis don't have a bull yet, so another pregnancy is far away.

Pretty sad.

I wonder if size of enclosure has a role in newborns' deaths. Artis' elephant house is pretty cramped, especially with the previous baby hanging around mother's legs.

I hope one of bulls from Amersfoort or Rotterdam will soon drop by to fix the leaking tap ;)

ELLY, here in Australia our news channels run with quite an extensive international or world news section and so zoo news from around the world frequently appears on TV or in print media, especially 'feel-good' stories like baby elephants and the like

Very sad news, I personally was looking forward to that birth, hopefully after the dust settles there will be plans to breed Thong Tai again,

yeah that's a shame but was that not the reason the Nikolai first came there? to breed with Thong Tai?
