but the father is the bull at whipsnade, did the babies with the virus have the same bull as the father of this calf (aka how ever long the elephants gestation period, so when his sperm was donated)

This jumping the gun, apparently the transfer of th virus is quite complicated and most Asian Elephants carry atleast one form of the virus.
 
I was at Twycross on Saturday and lucky enough to see the elephant calf, outside with Noorjahan. We watched for half an hour or so and were rewarded by witnessing an introduction at close quarters to the rest of the herd (except Tonzi for some reason who was locked in a seperate enclosure). The calf is sweet but does appear to me to be exceptionallly thin showing evidence of having been ill. He suckled very briefly a couple of times whilst we were there. I have some halfway decent pictures of him that I will endeavor to post on the gallery (though am usually jinxed with such technical tasks).
