A female was born, think it was called Niamh but was weak and died after a week or two.
Does anyone know what happened to the baby giraffe that was due after Margaret?
Yeh strolch got put down due to the eye infection/going blind. a new male was brought in, but he ended up fighting with the female, resulting in her dying before the keepers could split them up. shame.
As you say such a shame, I'd pieced it together and presumed that was what had happened. Such a shame as he may well do the same with another female so will breeding happen?
Niamh was just too young to overcome the infection. Had she been a week or so older she would have stood a chance.
...Margaret is still alive!

This is quite a difficult situation, you are right in saying that having fought with/killed a female, the male could do the same with another one. I have not heard of this before with this species. I think Chester may have two options here;
1. Bring in a new(compatable) pair to replace this male.
2. Keep him but when they get a new female, keep him mildly sedated during introductions until he shows he is going to be compatable.
I wouldn't want to just 'try again' with another female- it is too risky..![]()
