ZSL London Zoo Baby Gorilla!

I'm at the zoo now waiting in the line. The front of the queue is at the entrance to the covered area. It's quite long but I think it's worth it. There are also long lines at the front of the zoo. I didn't realise it was half term, it's good timing for ZSL!

Now I'm rather confused as the website announcement says they are going to start the process of introducing him to his stepfather 'Kesho' and something about forming a cohesive family group.

Mjuku didn't bond because she was pregnant, and now with the baby she still has not had time to become relaxed with Kesho yet. Do you think he will remain seperated and the ZSL announcement doesn't actually mean what it appears to say, at least short term.?
 
Saw the baby during my first (ever :D) visit to London today - there didn't seem to be any issues with Kesho but I'm not an expert.

Very happy to hear the baby has finally arrived!! I was hoping for a female but never mind

I believe he was requested, yes. However I'm not sure he would be any good as a breeder, Kesho should be a lot more reliable in that respect.

well thats what the volunteer was saying ,they wont put them in together now. Its sad to think but im guessing if its as big attraction as i think, then i dont see them risking it at the mo.... i think they only went public with this so soon as to bring in a few more people before xmas...!
 
Volunteers can obviously only tell you what they were last told themselves, and alas, that information isn't always accurate, up to date or comprehensive. I can assure you that yesterday's volunteers didn't know about the website announcement! I really hope it's true and not just optimistic wishful thinking. Kesho is a lovely if somewhat bouncy male so perhaps they're thinking that now Mjukuu has had her baby things will be easier. AFAIK so far Kesho has been introduced to all of them individually: Zaire can't be doing with him, Mjukuu is frightened of him, but Effi fancies him. Sounds like a soap opera!
 
Have you seen the video footage of Mjukuu and baby on the ZSL website – amazing, she is so gentle with him.

yes i see that, well cute haha. im going to get some of my own footage next week hopely and post it as i just learned how to :D

They do seem to be putting out mixed messages about all this-particularly after the press announcement that was made before Kesho arrived, although the situation didn't turn out quite as they hoped, of forming the group before the baby arrived.
 
After a bit of queing managed to see a very relaxed Mjukuu and baby today: pictures up tommorow.
 
Saw them yesterday morning , no queues immediately after opening time . Mjukuu is certainly obliging in showing off her baby and impressively gentle with him too . Kesho was relaxing in the passage above the visitor path , he could see into the main enclosure through the mesh at th end .
