Chessington Zoo Baby Gorilla

Probably daft questions, but why don't they put Kumili in with Damisi if she's a young female? Is it because her mother's already in the group and they don't want inbreeding? If so, why not send her away or exchange her?

Kumili is now coming into oestrus so hopefully will be introduced later this year if not the begining of next. its just given her time to grow a bit. lol :)

Kumili is only 5 + wouldn't you say she is too young to breed yet?

Is it true the new enclosure is going to be an enclosed cage now, not an open enclosure? Are there any plans drawn up yet?

Do you know whereabouts it will be sited- near the existing enclosure or in another area altogether?

Asili is the mother of Mjuku, the female with the baby at London.

I believe they are letting her breed again now because her daughter went to London which left Asili in a minority compared to her halfsister Shani, who has the support of two daughters Buu & Shangha with her in the same group.(They also both have one younger offspring currently living with the old pair Kumba & Baffia.)

Will be interesting to see how long it takes for her to become pregnant after contraception.
