Bad news for UK Watervoles

The continual comment of Escaped mink isn't the whole story, most of them it was once openly stated where by animal liberationists opposed to fur farming. I remember thinking at the time they would eat all and sundry and so it has proved.
Also some people still can't tell a brown rat from a water vole I wonder how many have been poisoned by rodent control operatives who either don't know the differance or don't care as long as they are paid.

A recent programme on vermin control on TV had a chap who ran a rat catching business state quite boldly that rats are like lizards if you catch them by the tail it drops off and they run away, I don't know if he thinks they also regrow.

That's actually true about the tails. With many rodents, if they are picked up by the tail, the tail can 'skin', leaving a nasty raw thing which will wither & drop off if the animal lives. Tame mice & gerbils can safely ge picked up by the base of the tail, but I am told this is not advisable with tame rats.

Yes I know what you mean FFBird but this guy maybe he had the wrong end of the stick or rat in this case claimed it would snap/drop off like a lizard rather than shed the skin.
I hadn't heard that before maybe i'm wrong.

Talking of mink, We have mink in the lake at one of my gardens now, they have killed all of the cygnets from last summer, but at least one mink has since been run over on the main road along side the boundary hedge.
