Paignton Zoo Bad news from Paignton

its an amazing smell, sometimes compared to stale sweat or burning rubber. I believe its given off by glands around the armpits and elsewhere.

The number of people who come into the Ape House wrinkling their delicate noses and complaining of the smell........ I'm tempted to suggest that our smell is offensive to the gorillas. Actually I like it, not least because it means that I'm in my favourite place in the zoo.

I do too..for the same reason. it must be very exciting if you are tracking Gorillas in the jungle, to come upon it. When you drive along the small country road outside Howletts ZooPark, you can sometimes smell it from the car as you drive past the Gorilla enclosures(they are close to the road)

Glad I'm not the only one who likes zoo smells! Even in Marwell's rhino and hippo houses where scent complaints fire, I don't mind it. Given that I hope to work as a keeper, perhaps it's the smell of the future.
There are some exceptions for me however, like passing the camel house at Cotswold.

I've mentioned before that the worst zoo smell ever I think was in the old Hippo House at London Zoo- it was truly appalling and people would come out with handkerchiefs over their faces and a glazed look in their eyes.

Hi Marwell Darlek,
Id love to be a zoo keeper too but am unsure of the quickest way of getting into it. Have you done a course or are you going off doing work experiences like volunteering etc?

I intend to do work experience/volunteering at a local wildlife park, and then do an animal management course at Sparsholt after graduating uni so I can progress to bigger things.
But we have gone off topic twice now, I think we should get back to Paignton's Gorillas.
