For the first time in over 30 years new tapirs have been imported from their home range...I believe the two now at the Nashville Zoo were captive bred in a Panamanian Zoo. Pretty exciting stuff, right! The Nashville Zoo also imported several Giant Anteater and have an off-exhibit breeding center with at least a dozen of them. That import has pretty much secured the captive genetics for giant anteaters for several decades.
