For the first time in over 30 years new tapirs have been imported from their home range...I believe the two now at the Nashville Zoo were captive bred in a Panamanian Zoo. Pretty exciting stuff, right! The Nashville Zoo also imported several Giant Anteater and have an off-exhibit breeding center with at least a dozen of them. That import has pretty much secured the captive genetics for giant anteaters for several decades.

Great news, Artis Zoo in Amsterdam also imported a female giant anteater from Argentina last year (and bred with her this year), this species is WAY on the up in the Zoological world. Great news, because they're one of my gf's favorites, and i quite enjoy them as well :)
