Bali Bird Park Bali Bird Park news

Hiya! Recently went to Bali Bird Park and since no one ( by the looks of it ) has recently shared much about the part I thought I would write some updates :)

Here’s some things I noticed from my visit….

- Bali Bird Park offers many encounters with the birds, where they sit on your shoulder or hand, and a photographer takes pictures of you, some of the birds include.. Scarlet & Blue / Gold Macaw, Palm Cockatoo, Eclectus Parrots, various cockatoo species and Yellow Napped Amazon Parrots. These encounters are free and are available all day.
- The park currently has 6 Hornbill species including.. Rhinoceros, Wreathed, Sulawesi Tartiric, Oriental Pied, Southern Ground and Sumba Wreathed.. The enclosures for the Hornbills seem a tad to small, besides the Rhinoceros’s, however they all seem heavily planted.
- The park currently keeps two species of Turaco, Violet and Hartlaub's, the violets are in there own aviary, and the single Hartlaub’s is in the mixed African Aviary with, Crowned Cranes, Grey Parrots and the someone numerous Ringnecked Pheasant ( There was so many of them every where in the park, especially the large Papua Aviary)
- From my knowledge the park does not have Javan Hawk Eagles or Northern Cassowaries anymore.
- I visited the ‘Bali Rainforest Free Flight’ Show and the birds they showcased were.. Rhinoceros, Wreathed and Oriental Pied Hornbills, Lesser Adjutants, a Green Winged Macaw, a young Southern Cassowary and domestic ducks and helmeted Guinea fowl.
- The Papua Aviary is amazing, so many bird species including.. Dusky Lorries, Red Lorries, Sclaters Crowned Pigeon, Great Argus, Ringnecked Pheasant, White Stork, Lesser Bird of Paradise, Grey Crowned Crane, Whistling Ducks ( unsure of species ) and a few more I can’t remember the names of.
- The park currently keeps 5 Bird of Paradises including, Greater, Lesser, Red, King and a female Twelve Wired.

Just some other things I wanted to note..
The park had 14 Greater Flamingoes, 2 Maleo Fowl, 1 Guianian Toucanet.

- Thankyou for reading, this is my first post so excuse me for any grammar mistakes :)

An odd mix for a Papuan aviary, especially when there are foreign birds like golden pheasants and grey crowned cranes and non-Papuan local birds like the great argus

I would change the cranes for cassowary and the white stork for Papuan hornbills.

Also missing a few parrot species like Pesquet's and Eclectus... Even so more Birds of Paradise species.

I believe a while ago they use to have species of hornbill and parrots, now it’s rather a large tropical mixed aviary, rather than Papua.

Cassowaries in a walk-through exhibit? They better be in a separate exhibit

Unless there's predominantly ground-dwelling or slow-moving birds (Like crowned pigeons) and considering the size of aviary (Enough to contain a standard cassowary exhibit but are big enough so that the exhibit wouldn't take a large part of the aviary), the concept of cassowary in an walkthrough aviary could actually be done.

Though I do prefer seeing cassowaries or any other ratites in their own separate exhibit/complex.

Selamat, @Rizz Carlton, I overlooked that part! Obviously a no go for cassowary in an open walk through habitat. I do wish though they forthwith remove the crane and white stork (the latter also a peculiar choice as there are rarer S.E. Asian tropical storks that better suit the habitat)

Bali Bird Park showcase their white-backed vulture, named Rob. The single individual appears to be only presented during special occasion, as there appears to be no mention in ZooChat but has been mentioned in other social media all the way back in July of 2024.
