A little zoo review I should give back in June 19, 2022:
Since it's been six months since I visited the zoo, I'm just gonna give a quick pros/cons of the zoo that I visited six months ago.
Pros:
- Most of the exhibits are spacious and huge for the animals. Especially the lion exhibit as well as the Striped Hyena exhibit. There are very little
- Some of the best animal encounters I've ever experienced in a zoo. I've got to feed a lemur on the rather empty walkabout exhibit for FREE and got some lemurs jumping on my shoulder (check my newest pfp), got to feed some tigers, meerkats, elephants, and deers up close as well, plus able to take a photo with a lion and a tiger resting near the glass.
- The design of the enclosure allows me to get as close as to the animals as possible, which allows me to admire them for a long time.
- Seeing rarities like False Gharial and Striped Hyenas are always a plus for me.
Cons:
- The overall species variety are a little lacking for my taste. For a zoo this big I feel like it should've been filled with way more animals, especially the savannah area (still waiting on the giraffes and rhinos to finally come to that area though). Even though there are several rarities, it should be more packing imo.
- Considering the fact that Kampung Sumatra needs a tram to travel all the way across from the main zoo area, I definitely feel like it still lacks enough animal exhibits to truly keeping me engaged. It should have more endemic Sumatran reptiles and birds housed imo.
- I hated the elephant area. Simply due to the fact that I can't bear the sight of an elephant with ride seats on their back. There doesn't seem to be an exhibit where visitors can watch elephants resting for a while, and this seriously bothers me. I'm a firm believer that elephants are not meant to be ridden and it would've been better if they just transform the whole area into where elephants can swim without any intervention. On the plus side I was able to get up close with an elephant with no seats on her back named Molly and gotta say, she's really gorgeous.
So overall rating:
Animal variety: 6/10
Animal exhibit: 8/10
Animal husbandry: 7/10
Total: 7/10
