Banham Zoo Banham Zoo News

Made my first ever visit to Banham today. What a lovely Zoo, and despite what most people would have as favourites, for me its Xavier hands down. A beautiful Suffolk Punch in Suffolk, who would happily come up for a stroke and a pat, beautiful animals and sadly will probably die out in our generation.

Some cracking exhibits, and loved how the female Sloth was very active today. Sadly didn't see the Pallas Cat but got to see most of the other delights, albeit the Ocelots were sleeping. Some absolutely gorgeous Birds of Prey as well, especially the American Hawk (what a beauty) and an adorable Common Genet as well. Some massive exhibits as well and a really nice Zoo I found. Got there too late to hear most of the talks and the animal presentation they have, but would certainly look to go again soon. Really nice collection.

The bird show is really sensational.

Dora the sea lion pup has sadly passed away; (see quote from zoos Facebook below)

We are extremely sad to inform all our followers that Dora, our young sea lion pup, was found dead in the sea lion pool this morning. A full investigation is taking place and we are awaiting the results of the post-mortem. Our keepers who cared for her and indeed everyone at the zoo are absolutely devastated by this sad news.

From a visit today;
-Silks Deer have left the collection for Highland Wildlife Park
-Dwarf Caiman enclosure being built on the Eureka building and are due to arrive in April/May

Do they still have giraffe there? There's not always a huge amount t of news from here although it looks a nice little zoo

They still hold Giraffe- I saw three today!
Would highly recommend a visit! I enjoyed it so much I got an annual pass today!

Banham have recently had another titi monkey birth. Also, the howler monkeys have started to be given access to the trees outside their enclosure.

Annual membership gets you 50% off entry to around 8 zoos in East Anglia. However if you get it at Jimmy’s Farm you get the same deal only paying £25 for membership plus you get 10% off in the shop and cafe.
The other zoos are around £60 membership so it works out great value to get the membership and the same perks from Jimmy’s Farm.

Linton is in the scheme and only £35!

The sika deer were in the massive prairie dog paddock right? I wonder if larger changes are afoot...

Yes and as you say, it is a very large are with plenty of potential
Potential enough for something as big as Elephants? I remember 10+ years ago when visiting the zoo a keeper mentioned it is something they would love to bring in. But would the zoo have the financial resources to pull off a project like that?

There is a large horse Paddock running more or less parallel to this enclosure too, I wouldn't say rhino would be impossible

Yala and Nimala the Sri-Lankan leopard youngsters have left the zoo and have moved to Parc des Félins in France.
