NEWS:

7 Gulf Box Turtles (Terrapene carolina major) have hatched on October 9th. Both parents and another female are visible in the outdoor vivarium for a few more weeks before returning to hibernation.

Oly, a 15 years old male striped hyena, left the zoo last week to Bouillon in Belgium. He is now retired from the breeding program.
A new male called Ed arrived to join Shinaï, the resident female. It is hope the new pair will bred soon.

In 2016 Oly and Shinaï hae four cubs. One of them is now father in Réserve de la Haute Touche.

Birth of two maned wolves in la Barben. The breeding pair composed of female Averna and male Picasso was formed last year.
 
La Barben received 4 males Cuvier's gazelle from Sigean. This is now the second holder in Europe outside Spain. This transfer has been made to make more space for the breeding pair in Sigean.

- birth of a black-capped capuchin in march.
- death of Brun, a 37 years old european brown bear which was considered the oldest one in Europe.

Recent news :
- the zoo received a female beisa oryx called Kiara. The zoo has now a breeding group 1.4 with a young male.
- birth of a giant anteater a month ago.
 
The zoo is building a new african dwarf crocodiles exhibit out of the reptile house. They will have a new building near the cassowary and will benefit of an outdoor enclosure. The idea for the zoo is to give large new exhibits with outdoors for all the crocodilian species.

This park is continuously going up ! Latest news : it will take part in conservation of the Crau plain grasshopper Prionotropis hystrix rhodanica which is classified as critically endangered by IUCN.
Some animals will arrive during spring in a new off-show breeding facility in the zoo where they can produce new grasshoppers who will be released into the wild. This action is one of the project "Life SOS Criquet de Crau" supported by the European Commission where some NGOs and state establishments are involved (like Besançon's Museum).

Other news : the 2 (1,1) great curassows born last summer will leave in a few weeks. The male will go to Beauval and the female to Zoo du Bassin d'Arcachon.
