Bats in the UK

Bristol has just put a new species on show - Pallas' Long-tongued bat Glossophaga soricina, which is a South American nectivorous species. So far it looks pretty good - I saw one on Sunday feeding from a hanging feeder in the same way asa hummingbird would.

I saw them today. They are in the nocturnal section in the exhibit before the aye-ayes (previously occupied by the mouse lemurs and jumping rats, which have been moved across the passage). They are very active, but I couldn't see very much in the dim green light. I wonder if they will increase the lighting as the bats get used to the exhibit.

Does the institute of zoology at Regents park still keep vampire bats?
