On February 24th, the zoo announced they acquired a (0.1) emperor tamarin named Meredith from the Belfast Zoo in Northern Ireland in January which is now on exhibit.

In January we welcomed a female emperor tamarin from our friends at Belfast Zoo! Our adorable new arrival was specially chosen by the European Endangered Species Breeding Programme as the perfect partner for our resident male, Storm! After a short quarantine period at the zoo, Meredith, who is 11 years old, was introduced to storm last week and the keeper team is delighted to share that the pair are already completely inseparable! Although Meredith is not too keen on sharing her food, both tamarins have been seen grooming eachother and cuddling up at night! Working with the EEP for this species to maintain a genetically healthy population, we hope to one day welcome precious baby tamarins to the zoo in the future! Eating a varied diet of vegetables, insects, nuts and tree gum, emperor tamarins are expert climbers, bouncing through the trees in search of their favourite snacks! In a scientific first, an Eastern casquehead iguana has hatched in Battersea Park Children's Zoo via parthenogenesis (a direct clone of its mother, who has not been kept with a male). The new youngster is now on-display in a nursery enclosure, and will join its mother and an unrelated female in their enclosure once it has grown larger.
