Batu Secret Zoo Batu Secret Zoo news

Aardvark? The first time I'm aware that this species did present in Indonesian facilities from a foreign news casually talking of it being sent elsewhere, with the species possibly not going to be seen again here publicly for a while? I definitely need more friends in that field here o_O
What is more interesting is that, according to Non Hoi Park, both the serval and the aardvark are captive-bred in 2023 at South Africa. So it could be possible that these animals were brought from South Africa specifically for the giraffe exchange with Japan. But that would be a bit on the speculative side of things…

Apprently BSZ doesn't keep an electric eel anymore and in its place is a massive longfin eel (very likely Anguilla malgumora)
Yes, the large individual has probably been dead for a couple of years now. I didn't report on that due to that fact and there's being more bigger worries in recent years :D (Like their missing short-beaked echidna and snow leopard).

The anguilla eel is not new and has also lives for years at this point in the zoo, just as the electric eel before.

It was signed as A. reinhardii, which seems unlikely since this species are found only in Australia and have a very flat head with longer snout. This might be just the usual A. marmorata, they're also found with shorter and blunt head as they grow larger and the mottled grey patterns do allign with that species. A. malgumora is also considered to be an inactive taxon to some, so, we can't be 100% certain that it's that species since we don't exactly know where it's origin (A. malgumora are thought to be found in the Mahakam River as well as Sulawesi, according to Fishbase).
