I've found it odd that it's IUCN red list status hasn't been reassesed to "Critically Endangered (possibly Extinct)" at any point yet. Maybe the situation in Myanmar is preventing surveys beyond reasonable doubt.

This is probably it, there has been a lot of speculation over what rare fauna could be around in the country but the conflicts and other dangers there seem to have prevented any major surveying.
