Beale Park Beale Wildlife Park 2022

- The site was a lot bigger than I expected from the size of the animal collection. A lot of the land is dedicated to lakeside walks, there are 4 or 5 lakes and I found them very pleasant.
The Child-Beale Trust has been in existence a long time. I remember visiting here in the 1950's when there was just the Mausoleum, the waterfowl lakes and a pheasantry. In recent decades its become developed more as a traditional wildlife park and seems to be increasing the quota of exotic species kept.

Busy couple of weeks:

Consolidating the majority of chacoan mara in the UK...we now have 2.2 and they'll be moving in together this week by the tapir.

1.3 banded mongoose came in from Folly Farm to join our female. Introductions went swimmingly and they look great as a group of 5....another animal not often seen these days.

The dwarf mongoose family that have been held off-show for a few months are now back on display with a litter of incredibly cute (but very fast) babies!

New lynx enclosure build in full swing and is looking impressive!

'Nother new species coming in tomorrow but will be off show for a little while until we get to that development.;)

New arrival this afternoon. 0.1 Tomistoma moved into the reptile house.....very cool, and adds to the growing list of species at Beale that you have very few chances of seeing in the UK!:D

I don't remember the reptile house being particularly large, has my memory failed me? has the reptile house been enlarged recently? or are there plans to enlarge the reptile house?

It's a youngster on loan that we're childminding for a few years until it begins to outgrow the enclosure. In the meantime, we get to have a really cool unusual species on display:D

Thursday brought in a proven breeding male guanaco, making Beale Wildlife Park the only UK zoo trying to bring this species back to the the British Isles! As we're focusing on 3 similarly vanishing species this year that are disappearing from the UK, I'll keep you posted.:D

Great news! How many females do you have currently, if that's okay to ask? :)

Thanks - I was thrown off by the castrated male :p

Aye, little Max is definitely a staff favourite. Especially when we had him sheared and the rest of the group (including his mother) took offence to it, shunning him for about a week!o_O

New lynx enclosure finished! It’s a massive upgrade on their previous home…about 6 times the size! We’re really pleased with it.
Moved in successfully yesterday, though they are a little phased by the new space, so expect them to be a little shyer than normal for a short while. And if you can’t see them on the ground, it’s worth looking up into the trees as we know that Lox (the female) was a real climber at her former zoo.:D

Hard to get the scale of the enclosure into one pic, but what’s really nice is that they’re able to hide in plain sight and you really need to look for them here!

Finn and Lox are becoming more relaxed, and really starting to explore. It’s not like Lox to sit out in the open like this, so to see her laying in the sand there is very cool to see.:D

The lynx have already made dens in between the boulders, but there’ll be even more coverage once the shrubs mature.

Cheers for the lovely comments. If you head to our Facebook page, there's a video introducing the new enclosure and you get to see the lynx enjoying their feed.

That classic green fencing :D

Sometimes the classics just work!:D

As a charity we don't always have a ton of cash to buy lots of new materials for developments, but as keepers we enjoy being able to be creative using things we find lying around...that's the charm of not working in a huge collection where everything gets done for you. Though it is pretty cool for us to have something shiny and new sometimes!

Baby rock hyrax has started to brave the outer world.

Scarlet ibis are sitting on chicks too which can be heard and sometimes seen when mum's stand up.:D
