Bear Situation In The UK

Chester zoo are looking at Giant Panda's again with the whole super zoo, but as none of these plans are certain it could all change
Yes they are but only via a live Satalite link to one of the Panda breeding centres.

Yes i think they are. The Director said in and interview when the masterplan was reavelead that something like that would be done with whales. Which i think is a lot better than keeping whales and dophins in captivity.

Blair drummond safari Park is now down to just the 1 European Brown Bear,the other 1 was put down because a tumor.

Koalas /platypus in UK zoos

Although I am not a zookeeper , I know some of the issues why these are not in UK zoos ;

Koalas ; There is the issue about diet . Are you able to grow the eucalyptus that they like to eat the leaves from ? They are very picky about which leaves they eat . .... any old gum tree WONT do ....

Platypus do not keep well in captivity in Australia -- how can any foreign zoo be reasonably confident for platypus to survive ?

There may well be other issues , including biosecurity ......

One of the other Australian members may be able to elaborate further
