Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo Beardsley Zoo News

Ah! Let's visit together! I've only been there... 76 times in the last year, so I can give you a history of all of the cracks in the zoo's pavement after the tour! :D

Ooh, this crack was formed in the great parking jam of '11!:D
And if you visit Beardsley, I can give you the life history of each of its 300 plus animals!:p

Well my expertice is on Bronx so I got nothing to contribute. Mabye I'll bore you with a semi-complete history on Thylacines!!:D:p

The Parking Jam of 2011! Oh, what a sight - you should've been there...

And yes, you can tell me all about everything about your ocelots, from the date and time of their 500th defecation, to their last sneeze. :p

Really? Well, mabye I do say mabye a lot. Maybe I should stop. Maybe it does refer to mermaids. Mabye we should all get together some time and bore each other to death (just joking:)). Mabye I can give a semi-complete history of Thylacines to you guys sometime. Mabye you can read a little of what I wrote about them on the Cryptidzoology (or is it Cryptozoology) thread. Mabye you can also read Chilodonias school me over and over. One thing I'm certain of, though, is that there is no "mabye" to the fact that Thylacines definetly lived after September 7, 1936 in the wild. For how long and if until today... That's the biggest mabye of them all.

Don't get me started on Kuma! Her life story actually is interesting (at least to me!) One of the perks of visiting a smaller zoo frequently is that you get to actually know some of the animals and learn stuff most people don't know about them. For example, did you know the female Greater Rhea is actually blind in her left eye?

I did after you told me. Was she born that way. Didn't Beardsley have a rhea before, their website said they had one female that was born there but I never saw it (then again it's not like they update their website too often). Which Ocelot was missing a leg and what happened to him/her? And if Kuma is that Ocelot (I just saw her resting on a rock when I was there (made a pretty great photo though)) what happened to her mate? I thought Beardsley originally had two (the last time I was there was like 3-5 years ago)?

The rhea had her eye pecked by one of her siblings when she was a chick, if I remember correctly. That's why she always tags closely behind her brother as he guides her around. Apparantely Beardsley did have a Greater Rhea a long time ago, but it was born in the 80's. Their website really is outdated, and they really need to update it. Perhaps they'll do it after Pampas Plains? Kuma is missing a leg and her tail due to an incident with her father grabbing her leg and tail through a fence. Her mate was Ozzy, a male from Salisbury Zoo. He was only brought to the zoo to collect sperm from him to artificially inseminate Kuma. Then he was brought back to Salisbury. This occured twice. If you have any more questions on any individual animals or species at Beardsley, just PM me!

Ok thanks. I'll make sure to do that. They really do need to update their website. I don't know when they got ride of them, but I don't remember seeing Broad-Snouted Caiman the last time I went there (excluding this years visit) but they still listed them for a while. They still say there White-Tailed Deer is an orphaned baby (I assume the deer is still at the zoo) and exhibited in Alligator Alley. Also, they still have the two Timber Wolves (Apache and Cheyenne) as being alive and well at the zoo. I'd think that you'd at least update the page for a species that has died. They still have Andean Bears, Nick and Nora, as being at the zoo. I thought the bear that just left was named Joaquin?

Ah, my fellow Connecticutians (wait, what? :D) are online! Mabye we should resume our... unique conversation from the other night? ;)

Did you ever loose power? Here in White Plains we never lost power. It barely rained, too. Just some thunder. The wind was the worst part. All we lost was internet for an hour or so.
Back home in CT, though, my areas still out of power and it's a mess.

No, I did not. Lights flickered a few times, but that's about it. I just got tired of hearing all this crap from these zoo nerds. There's quite a lot of them on this forum, aren't there? Or is it just me?

Yes I agree their names are Anaheim Zoo, BeardsleyZooFan, and ThylacineAlive. They are the WORST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BeardsleyZooFan just talks about the every detail of every animal from this little zoo from their first pee to their last grey hair:D. Anaheim Zoo just goes to this zoo in NY that's suppose to be a little popular and goes on and on about every pupple pubble:D. ThylacineAlive just posts repeated, half correct info. on multiple threads about cats and dead things and he asks a million bajillion questions......:(

I don't know if this is the place to be posting these. mabye we should make a new post just to make fun of one another:D

I think there should be threads just for posting nonsense, other than the Zoo Cafe. The chatroom doesn't keep your conversations (or does it?), which is why there should be a sort of "hang-out" thread where we can crack bad jokes and waste time fooling around...

I'll go make it right now if you want.

Does Beardsley have an email. I've never been able to find it.

Their Association of Zookeepers has an email, but they never responded to an email I sent. I don't think the zoo has a main e-mail address, though they do have e-mail addresses if you want to reserve the zoo for a party or something. If you want general information answered, I'd reccomend posting on their wall on Facebook. If you want information about the zoo's future or something like that, I'd reccomend private messaging them.

I don't have a Facebook so if you don't mind could you try and find out what breed(s) their rabbits are and the breed of the cat.
