Port Lympne Wild Animal Park Bears for Port Lympne

Beat me to it! What very interesting news! That makes two UK collections starting with the species next year.

Interesting on the zoo's website it mentions the Bears will be mixed with capybara, capuchin and ring-tailed coatis!

This is the current vacated enclosure, which is to be redeveloped for the bears and others.

Above the old Elephant stabling then. What was the last species in here?

Anyone know where the Bears might be coming from yet?

I think the contradiction between action and messaging is actually a positive, because it indicates, maybe, that the people making decisions about the future aren't the same as the people talking to the media...
Just an inference :)
I often ask myself if I prefer Howletts or Port Lympne more. So far, despite the more scenic setting and African Experience at PL, the presence of elephants tips the scales in Howletts' favour. I wonder if the addition of bears will ultimately change this.
 
Its just occurred to me the paddock mentioned above as most likely for these Bears is not in the pedestrianised part of the Park. Does that mean the only chance of seeing them will be as you are driven past in one of the trucks?:(

The optimist in me says the reverse will be true, that they will instead open another section of the zoo to foot-traffic. The large snow leopard enclosure is in that area as well I think?

Wouldn't be the first nice species they have restricted to that portion of the park :p Brown Hyena for a start.....
 
A reply on the PL Facebook page states that the bears will only be visible to general visitors from the safari vehicles . However the renamed Bear Lodge tents overlook the enclosure . Think this area was previously called Elephant Lodge , a replacement animal attraction was needed after the demise of Kruger .

Kruger's dead?!?!? When did that happen and, if so, how?

Very disappointing, I almost wish they hadn't bothered now!
