Colchester Zoo Bears

Hi there everyone, i was wondering whether anyone could tell me anything about colchester zoo's old bears from the late 90's??

Anything would b a good help thanks.

I don't think they had any bears by the late 90s. The last bear was an elderly female Syrian brown bear, the survivor of a larger group. There had also been at least 1.1 Asiatic black bears which moved into the adjacent enclosure when the bear cages were expanded and redeveloped in around 1987, but these died or left before the brown bear passed away.

They definitely had a single male asiatic black bear until about 2002, it was in the right of the 2 enclosures, i think the gelada were in the left hand one around that time.full details of the bears death are posted on another thread, i think a newspaper article was included
