On March 14th, the zoo announced they have acquired a (1.0) African pygmy hedgehog which will be used as an ambassador animal. He was later named Pickles.

On April 16th, the zoo announced they have opened a new sheltered seating picnic area.

On August 26th, the zoo announced they have moved their coppery titi monkeys to a new larger exhibit outside of the Monkey House.

Has anyone done a day trip to Belfast Zoo from Cairnryan? Just wondering how much a chore it is as the ferry is a bit pricey for the car.

At the end of this video, the zoo have announced that they are developing a new habitat for the barbary lions, which they will move into next year. The new habitat will be on the site of the former tiger enclosure, according to the member's area page on their website, which has a section on recent improvements.

I thought it was worth mentioning here that it seems Male Sun Bear Indera is on his way out and will soon leave Belfast Zoo for Paradise Wildlife Park and their new mixed enclosure "Sun Bear Heights"- correct me if I am wrong.

Paradise Wildlife Park have released a video on their YouTube giving an update on the ongoing work on Sun Bear Heights, and the facilities for all 3 species. The video also confirms that they have a pair set to arrive and hopefully breed, and the female of this pair is Kyra, born and currently living at Chester Zoo.
