Bengaluru or Mysuru Zoo while I’m here?

Hi, I’m in Bengaluru for a few days and I’m wondering which zoo would be better/nicer/easier to visit:

Bannerghatta or
Mysuru

We will be doing a day trip to Mysuru while we are here anyway, so visiting the zoo there can fit into our plans.

Thanks, Grant

Well it honestly depends on what you want to see. If you want to see a larger collection Mysuru is your best option.

This document will show you what you can expect at each zoo, so I'd advise you to have a look and then decide.

Hope you have a great trip in India.

This is a great document - I’m going to keep this for future reference!

I’m more keen to see the zoo with the better enclosures. The exact species displayed doesn’t matter to me much - I like them all.

Mysuru definitely has better enclosures than Bengaluru, but enclosures really arnt a strong suit for most South Asian zoos, so keep your expectations low.

Bangalore is a safari park, Mysore is a zoo. While that makes it slightly difficult to compare, Mysore is vastly better.
When you finish visiting I’d be interested in your opinion of whichever collection you do visit. Do remember what Kestrel said: nothing outstanding at either zoo and both still have many outdated enclosures.

Thanks for the tips guys - we will do Mysuru (even though we are staying in Bengaluru). It just feels like the better choice + it’s a good excuse to have a quick look at the centre of Mysuru too.

Just got back from Mysuru Zoo - it was really impressive! The enclosures for the great apes and big cats were particularly good I thought.

We couldn’t believe how big the greater Indian hornbill is! They are huge!
