Best City Zoo?

My favourite city zoo is Berlin but I found it extremely difficult to select just one, so I chose my top ten:
  • Amsterdam
  • Antwerp
  • Berlin *
  • Cologne
  • Frankfurt
  • New York (Bronx)
  • Prague
  • Rotterdam
  • Vienna
  • Wroclaw
* I am refering here to Berlin Zoo not Berlin Tierpark. Much as I love the Tierpark (it's probably my second favourite zoo) I don't think of it as being a city zoo.

I'm not really sure of what classifies a "city zoo" other than excluding zoos that are obviously not in the nominate "city" or are large safari parks (which are usually not in the city anyways). As for the answer for myself of zoos that I have seen, San Diego Zoo (solidly in the city and in a major city park), Antwerp, and Smithsonian would be my top three.

That's why I said honourable mention. It is a busy town and I find it quite amazing how it sets you in the jungles of Africa when you're technically next to a main road. The zoo prides itself in this immersiveness and I think that deserves at least a nod.

I had never noticed so much (fake) rocks and lawns on my visits to African jungles....

I'm surprised Saint Louis hasn't been brought up in this thread. When I think of excellent, historic "city zoos" in the United States, the first two examples that come to mind are Bronx and Saint Louis.

Madrid Zoo is also a good city zoo, and even quite sizeable with 500 species and 55 acres.

Belfast Zoo is nice as long as you don't mind the brutal hills

Franklin Park Zoo is also a good city one and so is Roger Williams.

Antwerp Zoo packs in a lot to its small space.

Biggest "city zoo" in the world is probably Tierpark Berlin which I haven't been to.

The smallest "city zoo" of a big city, excluding places like Central Park and Battersea (since they aren't primary zoos of their cities), might be Lille. There are smaller zoos but usually are secondary places or in small towns/cities.
