Best/Favorite Aquariums (Tanks)?

The “Tropical Rivers” exhibit at Nashville comes to mind. I’m simply amazed at the variety of species in this very long (series) of exhibits, some of which are interconnected. I also really like the fact that the upper half of the tank is lushly-planted and features reptiles and amphibians who can access the whole tank via the greenery.

I thought that the large Kelp tank at CAS was very nice, I even liked it better than MBA's, which seems sacrilegious to say. An interesting aspect of it is that you view the top of the tank, including some rockpool inhabitants, on the walkway into the Osher rainforest on the main floor. While not as deep as the one at MBA, is roughly as deep as the Philippine coral reef tank which it partially mirrors on the other side of the building. That tank also deserves a mention, as one of the deepest coral reef tanks with living coral, the wide viewing areas are quite impressive.

I really appreciate how MBA's large Monterey Bay Habitat tank showcases a much different side of cold-water habitats than normal, especially for a tank of its size. It is a delight to see sturgeons, striped bass, angelfish, sevengill shark, and many other large fish all together in a large tank.

Of course, my favorite singular tank would be Ocean Voyager. Not much can be said about it that hasn't been said before, it is quite simply spectacular.

Several tanks come in mind.

- The already mentioned Coral Reef tank at Burgers Zoo.
- Style wise I love the Lisbon aquarium made by the famous Takashi Amano: Forests Underwater
- Where the above mentioned aquarium was all about style, I loved another aquarium because of the replication of a biotope. It was the aquarium that stood in the burned down Monsoon forest at Chester zoo.

My favourite is easily the coral reef tank at Burgers' Zoo which isn't only huge (3rd largest in the world), but expertly designed too. Additionally it really tries to function as an ecosystem.

Another favourite is the coldwater aquarium at Innsbruck featuring native fish:

@Karol

I am also increasingly a fan of smalleit r aquaria that replicate a certain habitat with smaller fish species, offering close-up looks. Plenty of zoos and aquaria do a good job, but if I had to pick 2, one is probably this freshwater tank in Aquazoo Düsseldorf:

@snowleopard

And the other the coral reef tank in Oceanopolis, Brest

Of all the aquaria I haven't seen yet, Monterey Bay's kelp forest looksmost appealing...

I visited Monterey Bay Aquarium last year and I can confirm that the Kelp Forest tank is excellent. I do have some photos, but I haven't posted them here yet (I have been waiting to upgrade my hardware and software to deal with all the images from my visit). Many of the other exhibits there are also of very high quality or have very interesting stocking.

That aquarium was indeed in the area of the Monsoon Forest which was destroyed in the fire: but it was replaced and restocked before the whole building was reopened in 2020.

As a cichlid enthusiast, my personal favourite in the UK is the big Malagasy tank at Whipsnade, which also accommodates a panther chameleon (and the Tanganyika tank next to it is very nice too).

Good to hear! I only visited Chester Zoo once, so didn't know if they had rebuild it.
