This is just a bit of fun to judge the general consensus on the best enclosure for Malayan Tapirs in the Benelux. I have added a few photos from the gallery to make it easier for members to compare the different exhibits. If anyone wants to make an argument for a particular enclosure, please feel free to do so. Also, I would encourage people to list the enclosures in order of what they think is the best.

The Wombat and Komodo Dragon threads are closing tomorrow, and they are both in a draw at the moment, so if you want to vote or give an opinion on the exhibits do it soon before they close.

For me this is another simple one. Antwerp wins and Blijdorp takes second place to be nice. Antwerp has the largest enclosure, has a full separation enclosure which isn't shown in the pictures as well as an adjacent stable. It has plenty of shade due to the trees and foliage, a large pool that is easily accessible. Decent enrichment and number of feeding stations. The only minus for me is the inside is a little on the small side with a pool that is more like a bath. But still Antwerp is the largest and best enclosure I've seen.
Blijdorp on the other hand is decent, not great. The enclosure will be demolished in favor of expanding the elephant enclosure in the future.

I must say that I envy whoever took the photo of the indoors at Antwerp. When I visited it was covered in condensation and it was next to impossible to actually see the tapirs! :p

Even still, I thought it to be a great enclosure - spacious, pleasant, and equipped with a far larger pool than what is often provided. It appeared to be among the better enclosures that I had seen for the species, although admittedly I haven't seen Blijdorp's one.

Score update. It is close between the two enclosures but Rotterdam is just in front. Both enclosures are seeming to be of high quality.

I want to point out Antwerp has 2 full enclosures adjacent with both access to water and shade, different substrates multiple feeding stations and enrichment. Totaling about approximately 4560 m².
While Blijdorp has a square footage in a single enclosure about approximately 1900 m². Only one single enclosure. Not as much water, not as much enrichment and so on. So think before you vote.

The enclosures in Antwerp aren't 4560 m² , they are about 1000 m² including the indoors.
You can measure this accurate with geopunt.be

Alright thanks can you measure blijdorp then as well? I tried to do it but I guess I failed miserably.

I don't know Blijdorp as good and the enclosure is completely under the trees, but it would be around 670 m² but only the outdoors. Indoors I don't know as it is in the elephantbuilding.
If someone else wants to measure it is possible on Nationaal georegister

Poll closed. There has been a draw. Both enclosures have received 11 votes. Congratulations to Antwerp and Rotterdam for both having the best Malayan tapir enclosures in the Benelux. Both enclosures were of high quality.

Rotterdam: 50.0%
Antwerp: 50.0%
