This is just a bit of fun to judge the general consensus on the best enclosure for Red pandas in the Benelux. I have added a few photos from the gallery to make it easier for members to compare the different exhibits. If anyone wants to make an argument for a particular enclosure, please feel free to do so. Also, I would encourage people to list the enclosures in order of what they think is best.

If you want to vote for Pairi Daiza, Monde Sauvage, Artis or Ouwehands please vote for the ‘Other’ option in the poll.

BTW, I said about me not making them this week because of holiday- I’m going to make these in my free time in the Netherlands.

Just wanted to add that Pairi Daiza actually has two red panda exhibits, a hillside exhibit and an exhibit in their oriental wetland area, which is the one shown above. While the hillside may be closer to the natural habitat of the red panda than a wetland island, the hillside exhibit also does not feature living deciduous trees.

Personally I voted for the exhibit at GaiaZoo, as it has a good size and structure and features both climbing structures and live trees, and is also aesthetically quite pleasing.

Rotterdam has recently also built (or rather, re-built) themselves a secomd red panda enclosure:

In addition: here's some more recent (very very recent) photos of GaiaZOO:

To shed some light on the situation: I'm voting Gaia.

Blijdorp's new panda mountain may look big, but it's only slighly bigger than Aquazoo's or Avifauna's enclosure. Their breeding enclosure (shown in the original post) also isn't as big as the photo shows. On top of that, the new mountain also only has one tree that's really suitable for climbing, and no further climbing structures (apart from the mountain itself)

Gaiazoo's enclosure is bigger than Blijdorp's enclosures combined, has way better foliage and, with its hilly environment, a better landscape
