This is just a bit of fun to judge the general consensus on the best enclosure for Sloth Bears in Germany. I have added a few photos from the gallery to make it easier for members to compare the different exhibits. If anyone wants to make an argument for a particular enclosure, please feel free to do so. Also, I would encourage people to list the enclosures in order of what they think is best.

Unfortunately there no photos of this exhibit in the gallery. If someone could describe the exhibit or provide a photo that would be great.

My choice in this poll is Rheine. When I visited the zoo in 2019 there was a pack of exactly a dozen Golden Jackals in with two bears, which created a remarkably entertaining dynamic between the species. Also, there are actually two exhibits and that allows the zoo the opportunity to mix and match animals or separate creatures when needed.

Münster is the old enclosure for Syrian brown bears plus the sun bear enclosure. There are more climbing structures than before. They share the exhibit with dholes. Some pictures but more of the bears than the enclosure can be found here: Die Lippenbärem sind da - Aktuelles | Allwetterzoo Münster - Vielfalt begegnen, Großes erleben or one of the smaller old sunbear part here: Bärenhaus eröffnet

Actually I think all four enclosures are pretty good. Rheine is very large outside. My issue there is that you usually walk around the large enclosure only to realize that they are sleeping in their small inside part. I'd actually go for Münster in this case. They really did a good job extending the old indoor enclosures, the combination with dholes is nice, and due to merging two old bear enclosures they have enough space plus can split easily.

If you zoom in you can see multiple jackals in the background and on the front rocks ;) I also voted Rheine for reasons similar to your own. The indoor could do with a refurb but they're also the only one who offers indoor viewing so it could be seen as a bonus. Do the jackals have a separate indoor area that only they can enter or does each species have free reign over the exhibit? There does appear to be separate indoor quarters towards the back.

Leipzig is perfect for the bears and I can really sea them loving the lay out with plenty of climbing and hiding opportunities. Rheie actually doesn't look that big for an enclosure with that many individuals. Maybe there's an off show area?

The picture only shows a small part of the enclosure, maybe a quarter. In total it has 3.000 sqm and won a zoo keeper award in 2010. Biber 2010 - Zootierpflege

Score update. Rheine are perhaps unsurprisingly in the lead. All four of these exhibits seem to be good, compared to there being a few poor ones in the other Bear poll I have covered.

Poll closed. Congratulations to Rheine for having the Best Sloth Bear enclosure in Germany. The huge, award-winning exhibit mixed with jackals gave them the win over the other three pretty good exhibits.

Rheine: 54.2%
Leipzig: 25.0%
Berlin: 12.5%
Munster: 8.3%
