Just reviewing this and I am quite disappointed. Is there any danger of a zoo keeping their bongos in an enclosure which reflects their forested habitat?

I think outside Watatunga and Longleat which both fall into the large, safari equivalent mixed species spaces as mentioned above it is a fair point that no one else appears to offer a wooded habitat in a zoo enclosure in U.K. at the moment?

Of course one of the challenges is having a space with a forest equivalent or being able to cultivate one for an enclosure and many zoos who have that either don’t have space for Bongo or don’t have them. So it’s opportunity as much as anything.

I have thought it a shame that Whipsnade don’t extend their Bongo enclosure into the wood (tree compatability permitting) as the Bongo there can be seen against a wood but not in it, though the enclosure itself is spacious and decently planted.

I'm surprised Woburn scored so lowly on this, given they share the wooded area of the Monkey drive through and have an off-show woodland area outside their house.

You should maybe scratch Longleat now anyway, following the recent news..

I agree about Whipsnade, having often thought why don't they extend the paddock back into the woodland more. I have sometimes seen the Bongo 'trek' from the hardstanding to that woodland fence line- or vice versa- which they obviously prefer to the open paddock. But then they would probably become (more) invisible.

What's the recent news with Longlete?

Woburn and Whipsnade should have beaten Longeat drive through paddock easily anyway
