There is, of course, one big commonality between the Chester and Chestnut exhibits - both comprise excellent conversions of an existing feature for the purposes of creating a new exhibit :) for the reference of anyone who is unaware, the Chestnut exhibit was a converted Victorian ornamental pond.

For anyone curious, this was the Chestnut exhibit - the latter two photographs show the pool when partially-drained for maintenance but are included to show size and scale.

Score update. Chester unsurprisingly currently have a large lead with 89% of the vote. This is looking like once again a big victory for Chester. They have a superior outdoor and indoor enclosure compared to the contenders. A mention should be given to the South Lakes exhibit which is in my view the best we have seen so far in the polls.

With more than 2 days to go, this is surely going to be the biggest win of all! I don't think there has been any contest so far where the competition has been so poor in contrast to the leader.

Does anybody know if chestnut has been gutted and returned to the wild or do the exhibits still remain incase anybody ever wanted to take it over? Was a lovely walk around the grounds.

Surely there would be nothing much to take over? The enclosures/aviaries were only rustic poles and chicken wire, with a life of 5 to 10 years at max...

I believe the grounds themselves still belong to the owners, and presumably are more or less unchanged barring the presumable removal of the (as AS notes) very simple exhibit structures.

At the moment it is on track for the second biggest win so far. The biggest at 98% was in the Jaguar poll.

Just imagine what the lead would be like if we didn't have a smattering of lurkers who have posted for other collections for no apparent reason :P

Poll closed. Congratulations to Chester on easily winning the vote for Best UK Giant Otter enclosure. This is their 8th victory so far all of which have been comprehensive victories. They clearly stood out from the rest of the competition in this poll with an excellent natural enclosure.

Chester: 89.1%
YWP: 5.5%
South Lakes: 3.6%
Longleat: 1.8%

Thumping win, just probably not as big as it should have been! For the record I'd have voted Chestnut!

This would be my list

1. Chester is the clear winner with a nice indoors and an outstanding outdoor pool.

2. YWP outdoors is very bushy and big, but the indoors is a letdown.

3. south lakes probably has the second biggest pool on the list and nice enclosure but there is no indoor viewing.

4. longleat’s is decent for penguins but just doesn’t really work for otters.

5. New forest has the smallest area and the smallest pool plus no indoor viewing so it places it a comfortable last place.

That was because unfortunately the penguins at Longleat had to be rehomed to other collections due to Avain Malaria and that enclosure is where the Giant Otters live now
