Well it's not very flat is it and big komodo aren't brilliant at climbing a youngster yes, but they don't have a youngster
The design of the Paignton exhibit is very strange with the climbing opportunities though I think it suited the Reticulated Python better.I seem to remember it being much bigger than it is in the photo. The London exhibit used to be much larger before the some of it was cut of for juvenile Galapagos Tortoise and I do believe the outdoor area is unused.

Score update. Colchester currently have an 8 vote lead over London who are a further 3 votes ahead of Chester. It would appear the multiple indoor exhibits and the ability to open the roof at Colchester means the animals have more space available to them all year round which contributes to Colchester having the lead at this stage.

I think London is getting votes on what its exhibit was like once, not what exists now.
Last time I was there it consisted of just one indoor enclosure. If nothing has changed, the other enclosure is used by Galapogos tortoises and the outdoor exhibit isn't used, so neither of these should count!

And as good as the used area is it falls short compared to the large size, retractable roof and water sprays that form the Colchester exhibit.

Thank you.I seem to remember it looking somewhat different.I much prefer the original habitat to the current one which is small, simple and not near as well planted. It would be best if they kept it and maybe put the Komodo in Reptile Tropics?
I've got to know where you suggest they put it in Reptile Tropics, because to my mind that would mean a major rebuild of it, which to me is pointless. Also they didn't change the surface area available for the snakes, when they changed it for komodo so I have no clue where you got that idea from. I can only assume you are having a blonde moment yet again!

I never said they did change the surface area.I just think the current snake exhibit is a downgrade from the original enclosure.I do not think Reptile Tropics is an ideal home but neither is Crocodile Swamp.

Maybe move the Komodo to the giant tortoise house and build a new heated house for the tortoise on the side of Croc swamp or the far end of their current paddock?

Doing either of these would drastically reduce the usable enclosure space available to both species. That’s before taking into account the cost required to make such changes, let alone negating the effective, relatively low-cost renovations of the tortoise house and the Komodo exhibit.

As a snake enclosure, the current dragon enclosure left a lot to be desired. Very little in the way of usable furnishings, poor climatic controls (especially humidity) and little substrate beyond the concrete “tree.”

I would be interested to know why you think Crocodile Swamp is not an appropriate place to house a Komodo dragon.

Poll closed. Congratulations to Colchester on winning the vote for Best UK Komodo Dragon enclosure. In the end it was a comfortable victory with Colchester more than doubling any other collections vote. This is Colchester's second win overall now following on from the Bush Dog poll. London came second for the third time and are the collection who has the most votes so far without a win. A mention should also be given to Chester who once again produced a solid exhibit and came third.

Colchester: 51.0%
London: 24.5%
Chester: 16.3%
Crocodiles ot World: 6.1%
Birmingham WCP: 2.0%
