At Lympne again today thinking some how I had missed the Civet enclosure and for the life of me could not find it anywhere unless it is in an offshow enclosure

@Alwaysevergreen already stated they are offshow at PL. According to them the enclosure pictured doesn’t house Owston’s anymore

Wild still have an Asian Palm Civet and he does share with the Binturong and 2 otters. He comes out for food when the Otters are fed. He is called Patrick and I believe he hasn't got the best vision. He stays indoors a lot. Never seen him interact with the other animals in his exhibit.

Are there pictures available anywhere of Thrigby's refurbished enclosure?

@felis silvestris did you decide whether to keep Hamerton's civets in the same poll? To my eyes, Hamerton's enclosure looks like a standard and unspectacular small carnivore enclosure. A clearer image may help.

Although it has been clarified that Port Lympne does not house the species in the enclosure pictured, they still somehow have the joint lead in this poll, while Newquay, who have been pioneers in this species' ex-situ husbandry and breeding, have zero votes.

The attached image shows a portion of Newquay's C. owstoni nocturnal house enclosure. I don't have an image of the full space. Size-wise I would guess that the overall volume at least matches the Shaldon exhibit.

These images show parts of Owston's civet enclosures at Save Vietnam's Wildlife. While Owston's civets are predominantly terrestrial, they climb well and the enclosures offer a range of vertical and horizontal climbing opportunities and live planting.

I haven't seen Thrigby's housing, and the public cannot see Port Lympne's enclosure during a normal visit. Newquay and Shaldon both offer the civets enclosures that are most similar to those in Vietnam, with Newquay's outdoor enclosure probably the largest of the three/four.

I personally feel, this poll, should be cancelled and reset. As we have votes not knowing if it's just Owlston's Civets or all Civets and the one with the lead is for an exhibit which is now home to a Fishing Cat and has been for several years, and the one the Civets are in, is not on public view, and is smaller than Newquay's and similar in size to Shaldon's. Thrigby's has also been revamped and looks nice, yet no pictures, so I personally feel any outcome of this poll is currently very misleading and would not do it justice at all.

Sorry. I don’t know how to delete a poll.

You could ask those who have voted for PL to change their vote.
Bit late either way.

Poll closed. Congratulations to Thrigby for Having the Best Palm Civet enclosure in the UK.

Thrigby: 31.8%
Newquay: 22.7%
Hamerton: 18.2%
Port Lympne: 18.2%

This poll needs to be redone. Thrigby Hall no longer holds Owlston's Civet's, their pair passed away earlier this year and therefore when the poll was conducted, they no longer held the species.
Port Lympne's is not in the exhibit shown.

Really, this poll should be rendered void, and redone with the three zoos that actually hold the species, Newquay, Shaldon and Port Lympne.

A shame really considering how small the population is in captivity - either we can hope more offspring is bred from Newquay and Shaldon have some success or we get another import :p
